My localizing team mates and I were lulled by the sweet, funny romance of Again Tomorrow. While there were some epic sex scenes in every chapter of Nabako Kamo’s manga, there were a lot of other things going on as well. There were intrigues at the office or at various schools or, in one case, on…

An interesting article. Do you agree or disagree? Tell us your thoughts!
—It was interesting, but where did that version of the translation for Tired of Waiting for Love come from?
—I hope mangakas resist the urge to do more 4-koma. It’s cool for omake, but it’s more like reading flash cards and that just doesn’t work for a dramatic story telling.
—I don’t think digital = color. If used appropriately and in moderation, I don’t mind, but I fear that it may be used to heighten visual stimulation which can often be a cheat when a story isn’t compelling enough.
—I enjoy Ono Natsume’s art, but I don’t want more of it. I appreciate the variety of art styles that are out there.
—“…the dominance of scanlations does show that there’s a huge audience for poorly scanned, low-res JPEGs of B&W art designed for print.” – Not so. The audience is not “for” LQ, they just accept it. They accept it because they know it’s free and considering the position they’re in beggars can’t be choosers. We don’t live in a utopian society, so I’d never say that all readers of LQ work will attempt to be first in line when the official release is made available in their language, but many will and the fact that the scans are LQ can actually work in favor of official release purchases. A great story is a great story no matter what, but if you have a choice between reading a great story via ditto-esque scans with white rectangular speech bubbles over newsprint-colored images or reading it via $12.95 quality artwork sandwiched between glossy covers, which would you pick? Another counterpoint is that because the pride and reputation of the scan teams are on the line with every release, LQ is rather taboo, at least in the circles I run.
